My Bug Out Preps

I think it is germane to provide a cascading set of contingencies, from the simple to complex.  So when I consider "How to Prepare" I start with "Threat Analysis". The most likely probability is the loss of power. We live in a "I NEED POWER" sociaty, all of our toys, tools and must haves all seem to need power, so what to do.

1. Battery backup - I have deep cycle batteries I keep charged currently just 1 large and a few small more portable units.

2. Power Generation - Batteries need to be recharged, so I have several levels of chargers
  • Solar, from a small AA & AAA, D, C cell charger to 100 watts of panels.
  • Wind, a 400 watt generator for night and day charging.
  • Fuel, two gas powered generators, 1700 watt & 3500 watt, for charging batteries and powering heavy electrical loads. I keep 10 gal of extra gas as well as 1/2 tank at all times in both my trucks.
  • Hand crank, small unit to charge 12 volt accesories.
3. Hardware - I started buying stuff that runs off of 12 volts. These are useful in both a survival situation and when camping (great practice for survival).
  • Lights, spot and area floresent
  • Cooking, water pot heater, electric stove.
  • 12v Laptop charger & AA, AAA battery charger
  • 12v communications (Ham) Radio gear, also SW, Scanner, TV, Music, FRS, GMRS & MURS
  • 12v power converters 120watts, 300watts, 600watts 1200watts

First Post

This is my first post on the topic of survival. I will cover many things I have learned that hopefully will be of value to others. I really like the to be prepared. So I have dozens of lists, rather than list a bunch of stuff, I will cover how to prepare for survival using the "Rule of 3's"

The Rule of 3's are as follows.-

3 minutes without air
3 hours without adequate shelter (in inclement weather)
3 days without water
3 weeks without food
